My support team currently consists of my two older brothers (pictured to the left)
and several close friends. Hopefully I will have a car running parallel to me
for the majority of the river. I am confident that my team brings not only the
commitment and experience that I will need to support me, but also an enormous
number of skills and talents that would spice up any trip.
I will be independent of the support team as much as
possible, but I hope to have a constant communication capabilities. I am
planning on carrying all of my own gear, and I don’t think that I will be using
the support vehicle for anything more than safety concerns and an occasional
lunch break.
Concerns have arisen over the portaging, bad weather, and
break situations. I will be portaging all of my own gear. I plan on fighting
off any bad weather by picking good camp sites, and waiting in my nice warm tent
if the weather is too rough. But there
will be the option, if the need arises, for me to move to safety in the
flashflood or 100 year storm scenarios. As for breaks from the river, I plan to
take a couple small breaks. I will be taking hikes to stretch my legs and
jogging into town to eat at the local diners.
If you are interested in meeting up with me, you can contact me now,
while I’m still in the planning phase or, you can probably get a hold of me on
the river too.
I am going to avoid two things when I am on the water. First, I don’t want anybody to directly kayak
with me for more than a day trip. If you feel inspired, give me a day head start,
or join the support team. The second
pitfall that I would like to steer clear of is traveling off the water. I want to push my kayak back into the water
in the same place that I pulled it on shore the night before.
